BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS), administered by the School of Nursing and the Health Sciences, prepares health care professionals for roles as managers, clinicians, educators and analysts, and provides career mobility and enrichment opportunities at the baccalaureate level. The BSHS is a part-time evening program designed for working health care professionals with an associate degree in a health-related discipline and can be completed in approximately two years.

Admission Requirements and Procedures
  1. Documentation of at least one of the following:

    • an associate degree in a health/health related profession
    • a license or certificate in a health/health related discipline and completion of 40 hours of college level course work
    • current employment in the health care field and an associate degree (or completion of 60 hours of college level course work)

  2. A 2.5 (4.0 scale) or better cumulative grade point average in all previous subjects taken.
  3. A completed application to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. (Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the BSHS program.

Applied principles from the science that concerns itself with defining and explaining the inter-relationships of factors that determine disease frequency and distribution. Corequisite: HLSC 3300. (Formerly AHS 360)

TRANSCULTURAL HEALTH CARE.
Theoretical background for providing health care congruent with consumers' life styles and rural community needs.

Survey of nomenclature and classification systems including the ICD-9-CM classification system, diagnosis related groups relative value methodologies and ambulatory visit groups. Emphasis placed on reimbursement and quality applications.
